Waving

Intent: Set off body movement through a waving motion

Stand in a neutral position, with both of your feet under your shoulders, keeping the arms relaxed. With or without closed eyes, let your head make a small back and forward tilting motion, letting your neck and spine follow, imitating the movement of a wave. Go back and forth at a steady speed, increasing the magnitude of the wave. When you decide the movement is big enough, make your way back at the same intensity, until you are in the neutral standing position. Now make a sidewards wave, shifting the body weight from one leg to another. Start with the smallest wave possible but keep a steady pace. Increase the magnitude again until the wave is this big, that you either use the waving motion to enter an improvisation or make your way back by decreasing the scope of the wave until the standing position.

Drawn from the practice of Elsa Artmann, inspired by Jan Martens.
